HAND MADE PAPER UNIT

The Handmade paper unit was established as an important section of the Directorate of Handicrafts & Handloom in the year 1957 with aim to process/ convert used waste into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution and water pollution by reducing the need for conventional waste disposal as compared to virgin production. Recycling is a key component of modern waste management. Further old files and documents of Office are restricted from being disposed in the open market due to many reasons confidentiality being the main. There are others sources from which waste paper and raw materials are gathered.

Handmade paper and its attractive products are becoming popular in the world market due to their eco-friendly attribute, artistic appeal and durability. As handmade paper is made entirely from recycling of waste materials, its uses helps in saving trees and this contributes to healthier environment. The Government in furtherance of its vision to make Sikkim a clean green state is committed to ensure that tress are planted regularly , banning uses of plastic bags and encourage the
use of eco- friendly articles in day to day life.
